E-Gates at Dubai International Airport

   

Dubai Airport is the first airport in the Middle East and the third in the world to install such
an advanced passenger clearance system that considerably accelerates the movement
of traffic through electronic screening of passengers’ data with the help of a smart card.


120 e-gates have so far been installed at the airport.




The new system of automated electronic gates not only will speed up the registration of travelers through the airport but will also act as a significant barrier for illegal entrants in to the Emirate.
The electronic gates, utilize the concepts of smart card and fingerprint identification to automate the registration process. This ensures that each person can only enroll once in the system.



Dubai International Airport is used by millions of business visitors, tourists
and expatriates. This enormous volume of traffic and the ensuing documentation pose a major
Problem to the authorities, whereby the e-Gate at Dubai International Airport represents a totally new concept in air passenger clearance.

The e-gate has recorded a tremendous success with more than 3,500 residents
from over 45 nationalities applying for a smart card that contains identification
information in the first month of its operation.

The gates will only allow those passengers into the system whose
fingerprints match the enrolled identifications.

Manual passport processing procedures were speeded up from 3-4 minutes
to 30 seconds and now the e-card has reduced the time to 5 seconds.
