Melbourne - Australia Magnetic Automation Australia has supplied 21 AFC Gates for the Docklands and 5 Gates for the Spencer street railway extention in Melbourne. Magnetic was the Strategical Partner with the system integrator for the implementation of the Melbourne AFC System during 1998 when 296 Pedestrian Barriers with retractable wings where installed throughout the Melbourne metropolitan area. 54 wide lanes for Disabled access complement the installation. The system is designed to accept paper tickets with magnetic stripe and the latest technology in contactless smart cards.  Bright yellow flaps operating with a speed of 0.3 sec. guarantees fast throughput of passengers. Special requirements such as super bright LED Displays and integrated contactless smart card readers makes the barrier access user friendly and provides enhanced ergonomics.  The Barriers can also operate in open mode, staying open all the time until an unauthorized person tries to pass the Barrier, then it will close the the flaps in a fraction of a second.
