River Walk Brisbane Australia

Magnetic Australias Queensland Branch Office was given the task to design a system for pedestrian control at the New "River Walk" in Brisbane. River Walk is a pedestrian walkway that runs for approximately 3km along the Brisbane river in the center of the city.

1km of the walkway floats on the river surface and is located approximately 20m from the shore line.
In the center of the floating walkway is a 30m section that opens to allow the passage of boats to private moorings on the river bank. This necessitated the design of a swinging section of floating walkway that was hydraulically driven opened and closed . Further, while the walkway is open, pedestrians must be blocked from entering. To complicate the system, no electrical wiring was allowed between the two sides of the open walkway.

Magnetic designed and manufactured swinging gates and a sliding gate in line with the Architects specification for a visually attractive and practical system that included all of the safety systems necessary for a public place.

Magnetic also designed the sophisticated electronic system to control the Hydraulic System, alarms, and interfaces. The complex issue of communication between the gates on either side of the moving section was made possible by incorporating a  "Telemetry" system.

Operated by the Brisbane City Council control monitoring room some kilometers away, this state of the art pedestrian control system has set new standards of technology in the pedestrian and automatic gate industry.
