Solar Powered Gates in Outback Australia

Magnetic Australia has been one of the major suppliers of Traffic and Pedestrian Control equipment to one of Australia’ s largest companies, BHP Billiton (BHP), for many years. Many of BHP sites are in far distant and isolated areas within Australia.

As part of BHP’s continued efforts to secure their sites Magnetic WA branch, located in Perth was given the order to install and commission security sliding gates at the entrances of the explosives magazines.

Installation of this project was at BHP Newman plant located in a remote area in Western Australia. Being in a remote location the nearest power supply for equipment was located approximately 15kms away from each of the installation sites.

Magnetic Automation had to find a solution for a secured gate and motor drive combination that would be able to run on Solar Power.

The solution was to use a Heras Delta modular gate system using NICE Robus 350 motors which are powered by solar panels and deep cycle battery packs. The Heras Delta gates being modular allow for easy transport to site and assembly on site.
